Golden Paddlers observe 105th year since inceptual land use reservation

Caraga State University commemorates Proclamation No. 4 passed by American Governor General Francis Burton Harrison in 1920 that reserved  232-hectare land in Ampayon, Butuan City, which was instrumental in the inception of the university 105 years ago.

Faculty, staff, and students from Butuan and Cabadbaran Campuses participated in a short parade, wreath-laying, and reading of the university history in front of Governor Burton’s statue. The program closed with a community dance.

University President Rolyn C. Daguil, PhD, graced the activity and highlighted the “labor of love and enduring legacies” left by the instrumental figures in CSU history, including Hon. Elisa R. Ochoa, who filed an omnibus bill that conceived the then Agusan Agriculture High School (AAHS) in 1918. 

“Hon. Ochoa echoes the importance of serving others with honesty and staying true to one’s principles while Governor Harrison not only sought independence but also championed local reforms. We are reminded that their values continue to guide us today,” said President Daguil.  

Such commemoration honors and reflects CSU’s humble beginning and significant progress towards creating a positive impact within and beyond the Caraga Region.
