CSU, Agusan del Norte collaborate to improve disaster resilience and management

CSU has partnered with the Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte (PGADN) to develop a Local Resilience Index (LRI) designed to assess the disaster resilience levels of local government units and strengthen evidence-based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCAM) programming.
CSU, represented by University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, and PGADN signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on March 17, 2025, at the ADN Provincial Training Center, Capitol Compound, Butuan City. This collaboration also marks CSU’s official inclusion in the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).
The project, also known as “Sumbanan sa Kalig-on,” is the first of its kind in the Philippines. It was developed by a dedicated Technical Working Group (TWG), with Mr. Vincent N. Cotoron, Unit Head of CSU Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRMMO), as the technical expert representing the academe.
Beyond its role in resilience assessment, such partnership paves the way for expanded research, extension, and innovation initiatives in the university. Faculty researchers will have the opportunity to submit research and project proposals aligned with the index’s objectives. The Provincial Government of Agusan del Norte has committed full funding for approved proposals, ensuring direct support for research and capacity-building initiatives within the province’s LGUs.
Through this MOA, CSU reaffirms its commitment to science-driven climate action, disaster resilience, and community development, reinforcing its role as a key academic partner in local governance and sustainable development. | via CSU-DRRMO, PICO
